Asha Devi Mohant, a 32-year-old female Ansar member, was found dead on a cot at her house in Banail village, Shibganj, Bogra. Asha Devi, who was in charge of the puja mandap, had left at 11 p.m. the night before. When her mother-in-law arrived home at midnight, she discovered Asha Devi dead on the bed.
Her corpse was recovered from her home in Banail village and sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SHJMEC) Hospital Morgue for a post-mortem examination. Shibganj police station OC Abdur Rauf corroborated these findings, saying that Asha Devi was in charge of the upazila’s puja mandap in Mohantpara. She took an hour off on Monday and came home at about 11 p.m. When her mother-in-law returned home at midnight, the house door was closed. She spotted Asha Devi on the bed after entering via the rear entrance. Even though she was transferred to the Upazila Health Complex, the doctor proclaimed her dead.
The OC further said that a noose was discovered around Asha Devi’s neck, and nothing was missing from the premises. The motivation for the murder is yet unclear, and authorities are investigating the crime.
The deceased’s spouse, Bhajan Kumar, revealed, “I was at the shop during the night.” My mother and brother’s wife were present at the puja mandap. When I got home after hearing the news, I found Asha asleep on the bed. We have no idea why or who would have murdered her.”
According to Ansar and Village Defense Force Shibganj branch officer Manzrul Islam, Asha Devi was the head of the Ansar party in Ward No. 8 of Asha Municipality and was presiding at the Banail Uttarpara puja mandap in the municipal territory during Durga Puja.
