An event on October 17 killed 10-year-old schoolgirl Ayma Baisakhi. At approximately 6 pm, she perished when a covered van attacked her while walking along the Feni-Lakshiara road in Elahiganj.
Baisakhi Feni, a young victim, was the progeny of Salauddin and a resident of Sadar Upazila’s Elahiganj locality within the Panchgachia Union. She was in the fifth grade at a primary school operated by the local government.
As reported by eyewitnesses, the incident transpired in the evening as Baisakhi strolled along Elahiganj road in Panchgachia Union. A van carrying emergency medication and cover collided with her from behind. She was rushed to Feni General Hospital by concerned locals, who transported her there. Regrettably, the attending physician declared her deceased.
The Panchgachia Union Parishad (UP) Chairman, Mahbubul Haque Liton, confirmed to Banglanews that the covered van was confiscated by the local community, which notified the police immediately following the incident.
Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station, confirmed that the police responded to the scene upon receiving the information. Currently, the Feni General Hospital morgue is conducting a post-mortem examination of the child’s remains. Although the covered van was impounded in connection with the incident, no arrests have been made thus far of either the driver or the assistant. There will be legal repercussions regarding this tragic incident.
