In a saddening incident in Mirsharai, Chittagong, Lima Akhtar, a 36-year-old housewife, tragically ended her own life by poisoning herself. Police found her body at the scene, prompting a somber reflection on the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.
On Tuesday evening, February 6, something happened at Hasmat Ali Saudagar’s house in Takiapara, which is in the Khaiachhra Union in Upazila. Lima Akter, who is married to Didarul Alam from that house, was involved.
According to police and local sources, Lima was having a family dispute with her husband Didar. Because of this, the locals believe that she drank the pesticide poison kept in the house.
After drinking the poison, the family members rushed her to the health complex in Mirsrai Upazila. She died there.
Gopal Chandra Chowdhury, a member of Ward No. 5 of Khaiachra Union Parishad, said, ‘I have heard the news of the suicide of a housewife of Hasmat Ali’s house in my ward. However, I cannot say for sure what caused the poisoning. The housewife has a five-year-old child.’
Dr. Mirsrai Upazila Health Complex emergency department doctor, Sifat Sultana said, “A female patient was brought to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. After that, her death was confirmed by ECG. As the smell came out of that woman’s mouth, I am assuming that she has taken poison.”
Inspector (Investigation) of Mirsrai Police Station, Diptesh Roy said, “We rushed to the Upazila Health Complex after getting the news. She was found dead there. Later the body was brought to the police station. The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem.”
