Nearly five years have gone since Nusrat’s death in Sonagazi, Feni, as a result of sexual harassment by a teacher. Today, a disturbingly similar incidence occurred within the same area and upazila. A primary school teacher is facing allegations after a parent filed a complaint on behalf of his two daughters. This complaint prompted 16 more pupils to come forward with complaints of sexual harassment.
An Assistant teacher at a government primary school in Sonagazi Upazila, Feni, is under scrutiny due to accusations of sexual harassment. The situation was exposed subsequent to the submission of a written complaint by Md. Nazrul Islam. Nazrul, a concerned parent whose two daughters were apparently victimized by sexual harassment on a Sunday morning.
The Upazila Education Officer conducted an investigation and interrogated the students in response to the complaint. Unbelievably, a minimum of sixteen female students accused the teacher of committing sexual harassment.
Following this, Upazila Primary Education Officer Nazrul Islam arranged a gathering at the Union Parishad (UP) office to deliberate on the matter. In attendance were parents, the local UP chairman, UP members, and the president of the school management committee. An investigation is currently in progress.
A teacher who is convicted during the investigation could be subject to legal consequences, which could involve a case brought before the department.
Nevertheless, the teacher in question vigorously disavows the accusations, contending that he has been duped.
Hasan Imam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Sonagazi Model Police Station, disclosed that comparable occurrences have transpired in a number of upazila schools. It was emphasized that the absence of written complaints lodged with the police regarding these incidents has led to the perpetrators evading any form of repercussion. When written objections are received, legal proceedings will be initiated subsequent to a comprehensive investigation.
Kamrul Hasan, the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), conveyed his apprehension regarding the occurrence, underscoring that vengeance will be exacted on the perpetrator should the allegations be proven.
