Rehena Khatun, 24, died at Kaijuri Union in Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur Upazila. Her husband and his family are suspected of this horrific act. This terrible tragedy may have been caused by dowry disputes. After the police found Rehena’s dead body on Tuesday night, her corpse were sent to Sirajganj’s Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnecha Mujib General Hospital for a post-mortem.
After what happened, the whole family went into hiding, including the husband, his parents, and his siblings. Khalil Sikder had a daughter named Rehena Khatun, and he resided in Daulatpur Union, Belkuchi Upazila.
Victims Mother Jahura Khatun stated that her daughter Rehena had tied the knot with Salim Sarkar of the Shahjadpur Upazila of Sirajganj; he is the son of Seraj Sarkar. Chargram, Bhat Dighulia, Kaijuri Union was where Salim Sarkar made his home. They had been married for five years, and the groom had received Tk 70,000 in dowry.
Allegedly, Rehena Khatun went through a horrible struggle due to a dowry dispute, during which her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and other in-laws beat and humiliated her physically. In the days following family mediation, Jahura Khatun repeatedly invited her daughter Rehena to come her husband’s family.
But the day of the incident, at around noon, the family demanded dowry payment, and the torture started. After voicing her disapproval, Rehena was allegedly beaten severely and then strangled to death. She was unjustly accused of committing suicide after her family had already left the house.
Khairul Basar, who is in charge of the Shahjadpur police station, confirmed that Jahura Khatun, the victim’s mother, had signed as the complainant in an official statement. In her statement, she listed people who were involved in the murder case, including the victim’s father-in-law, Seraj Sarkar, her husband, Salim Sarkar, Brother in Law Yusuf Ali, Sister in Law Urmi Khatun, and Elder Brother in Law Ramzan Ali.
Authorities are still not sure if the person who died by killed herself or the victim of intentional murder in this case. To deal with this, a case has been officially opened under Section 306. The next steps in the legal procedure will be decided after the autopsy finds out what really happened with the death.
