Kamrul Mostafa (30), a convicted rapist condemned to life in jail for his alleged participation in the abduction and rape of a Class six student in Baklia, Chittagong, has been apprehended by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
This incident has attracted the public’s attention, underlining the gravity of the crime committed and the efforts being taken to bring the culprit to be punished, and it took place on Tuesday (June 6 2023) in the Shershah district of Bayezid Bostami police station.
Kamrul Mostafa, a local of the Pecharpara neighborhood in Kutubdia thana, Coxbazar district, managed to elude authorities for quite some time before being caught. The wanted criminal had taken to the shadows, using a variety of strategies to evade capture.
According to RAB authorities, the victim, a Class six student from Baklia, had a disturbing link to the suspect, Kamrul Mostafa. Kamrul previously attended in the same school, they had gone to school together, the victim felt comfortable calling Kamrul “Bhaiya” (brother). Kamrul took advantage of the situation by befriending the young girl and enticing her to his house on several occasions. Kamrul’s evil character and the extent of his dishonesty are shown by the terrible exploitation of trust.
Kamrul tragically enticed and stole the child on August 3, 2014, at about 4 p.m., and took her to ox’s Bazar. He held her captive in a room at a local hotel for two days, during which time he sexually assaulted her repeatedly. Kamrul was supposed to bring the victim from Cox’s Bazar to Chittagong on August 6, but he was stopped in the Karnaphuli area by the girl’s father and uncle. They helped get the victim to safety and turned up and Kamrul to authorities.
The father of the victim filed a complaint against Kamrul at the Baklia police station after the event. Kamrul, however, was given bail during his trial and he disappeared quickly.
Kamrul was found guilty based on the overwhelming evidence presented, and he was given a life term jail, a warrant for his arrest, and a fine of Taka 50,000.
